
100年近い歴史を持つ外国語学校アテネ・フランセの、国際交流部門として70年に設立。映画による国際交流を目的に、世界各国の映画やビデオ作品を上映している。近年は、技術開発にも力をいれており、コンピューターを駆使した字幕投影システム(S.P.S)を開発。この技術提供を軸に全国各地で行われる映画祭の製作業務も行っている。89年日本映画ペンクラブ賞、94年日本映画ペンクラブ奨励賞。中心となるシネクラブの活動では、「古典映画の再評価と同時代作家の発見」をテーマに内外映画人を招き、上映と並行して講演会やシンポジウムなどを行う。一年間の総映画上映本数はおよそ200本。
Athenee Francais Cultural Center was established in 1970 as the international exchange division of L'Athenee Francais, the language school with close to a century of history. The Center, having a purpose of promoting international exchange through film, exhibits works in the form of motion pictures and video from all over the world. Besides film and video, the Center has also put its strength lately into the area of technical development. The end result has been the development of a computer driven subtitling projection system (S.P.S.). By making this technology available, the Center has been able to involve itself in production work with international film festivals throughout Japan. The Center has been awarded the 1989 Japanese Film Pen Club Award and the 1994. Japanese Film Pen Club Promotion Award Activities of the Cine Club, the focal point of the Center, include holding lectures and symposiums featuring film industry related guests invited from Japan and abroad, all in conjunction with the exhibition of film and video. The Cine Club exhibits about 200 titles a year.
